017 is off to a fast start in many Districts. While many of you are still shoveling snow, here
in our District we are preparing for our fourth race of the season.
When I ran for President there were two things that I really wanted to focus on if I won. First,
I wanted to make the NAMBA Nationals the premier event of the year for all NAMBA members
across all Districts. Second, I wanted to build a race manage- ment software system that could be
utilized by all NAMBA members. I want to make the NAMBA Nationals a first class event
because I want boaters from all across the country to have a chance to come together to build
lifelong friendships and camaraderie. As you may already know, this year’s event will be held in
Las Vegas, NV in October. It will include Gas, Nitro and Electric Boats. We have racers and
their families coming from all over the world to participate in the eight days of scheduled racing.
Plus there are many fun activities planned for the whole family that will surely make this a
premier racing experience. All of the details can be found on our website at

have planned. If you have never been to a NAMBA Nationals before, this year will be a great
time to start. If you have attended past National events, the District 19 Nationals Committee
along with me will do our best to make this year’s event the best ever. I have worked personally
with several Districts across the country and have lined up five cities to host this great event for
the next five years. I want to continue our tradition for years to come.
As President, I also wanted to focus on building a race management software system that
would provide all NAMBA members the tools needed to host a successful race. I’m happy to
announce that NAMBA has purchased the computer code and hired a programmer to do just
that. This new program will assist in taking online entries, build heat sheets and manage all of
the scoring. I am hoping to have it available for everyone to use in the next few months.
In the last newsletter message, I informed everyone that NAMBA paid out a large settlement
to a member that was hurt a few years back while not following our safety rules. As an
organization we needed to make some changes that would allow us to continue to have insurance
coverage at a reasonable price. I worked with an attorney for NAMBA to help create the new
Acknowledgement Form that all members signed in 2017. One Board Member, Robert Holland
played a key role in helping me construct this form and I would like to personally thank him.
Thank you Robert! Together, Robert and I analyzed the Acknowledgement Form word for
word, and line by line until we had a document that we knew would protect our organization, our
members and at the same time protect the Insurance Company going forward. After several
conversations with our Insurance Company, the Underwriters decided to continue our coverage
with a new policy because they felt that we had taken the initiative to prevent these types of
claims from happening again.
