NAMBA Elections ………………….. President’s Message By Alan Hobbs NAMBA President It has been my good fortune to have visited and raced at so many different venues over the past 2 years. I have raced in District 5, District 7, District 8, District 16, District 19 and District 20. What I have learned at all of these locations is that we all want the same things, the time and place to run our model boats. Time with friends is very important to all of us. While everyone likes to win the race, time with friends and time running model boats is what matters the most. I have said this before to many different people; most of what there is about NAMBA is great. It is a good hobby, a good sport, good friends, good insurance for members and sites, and a source for help. But, there is a small part within NAMBA that is like a little black cloud hanging around. This cloud is made up of jealousy, a willingness to cheat to win, greediness, and foul language. For NAMBA to flourish, we must make certain that this little cloud does not grow and become a bigger part of our sport and hobby. No one is more important to NAMBA and model boating than you are. You are the person most able to attract new members. You are the person within NAMBA that can draw people into our hobby and sport. You are the person we respect and support. We all rely upon you to support NAMBA and all of the membership. It is important to remember that we are a small group competing for new members and to keep what we have. What hurts our chances to both attract new members and to keep our sites can be our own behavior. Spectators see how we behave. If we are friendly and treat each other with respect, the spectator sees us and our hobby as something that may be just what the spectator wants. If we are rude, spiteful and vulgar, there is little to no chance of attracting new members from the spectators around us. This is not only true about our behavior at the pond. How we act, what we say on the internet is not just limited to model boaters. People looking for a new hobby today turn to the internet. There they can see what is going on in NAMBA. They can find clubs, District Directors, race schedules and contact people. When they see negative posts, the result is negative thoughts about NAMBA and about model boating. Your posts may be directed to particular people, but others who you have never met will also be reading your posts. Obviously, there are differences between members. Maybe it is a judge’s call. Maybe it is a dispute over a purchase or sale. These disputes happen and the best way to handle such disputes is face to face like gentlemen. I had such a dispute 2 years ago. A NAMBA member wanted to buy a certain brand and size used boat with hardware and radio installed. I messaged him that I had such a boat with only the hardware installed. He liked my price, agreed to buy the boat, and I sent it to him. 2 2 3 4 8 9 9 10 11 12 12 13 14 16 19 19 20 23 PRESIDENT Alan Hobbs 2402 Old US Highway 91 Cascade, MT 59421 (406) 468-2706 e-mail: hobbsmt@prodigy.net VICE PRESIDENT Richard Romero 7802 S.
