Our membership grew, we gained financially, and we improved our insurance coverage. One of the 2018 highlights was the 2018 NAMBA Nats in Dallas. There was a great turnout with many good races. The weather turned nice as the Nats began, but left some mud in the pit area. Actually, there was a lot of mud in the pit area. But the site was very good and the racing was great. My compliments and thanks to the Dallas area NAMBA members for a great time. The 2019 NAMBA Nats will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. This will not be the first NAMBA Nats at this site. I have raced at this site a few times and I have had a good time at each of the events. The pond and hotels are close, well within walking distance. There are several restaurants nearby, and Salt Lake City offers many things for the family. In the past, I have attended three District 20 sponsored NAMBA Nats. These have been relaxed, uncrowded and lots of fun. There has been time for testing and time to socialize. This is a high altitude location, so bring smaller props and longer pipes. District 20 has decided to have a day off from racing during the week. This will be a time for non-racing events and family oriented activities. I think this is a good idea to take a break from racing for a day. Normally, I schedule a day off during each Nats to take it easy. I sincerely recommend attending this District 20 sponsored NAMBA Nats. 2019 will be a year where we will stress membership growth. While we can be happy with the positive growth during 2018, we need to maintain the direction. This is an effort we just cannot slow down or stop. NAMBA’s future depends on attracting new members and keeping the members we have. While the NAMBA Board of Directors is discussing different ideas to increase membership, every member can be a positive influence. First, be proud of this hobby. This is a hobby that appeals to many different interests. Some people love to work in their shop; designing, building and painting their boats. Some people love the competition, whether it is racing, making the best looking boat, or competing in the warship events. Some people just like to run their model boats with friends and club members. Take pride in your boating sites. Keep them clean by picking up the trash. Support club workdays. Have designated places for the public so they can watch your boats run. Advertise your events to attract spectators.
