in 1/10th Scale Modern, was fifth overall
in High Points and was also on the
winning Scottsdale Model Boaters Team.
Kim McKay impressed the entire crowd
with her ability to get her P-Ltd Offshore
boat around the course. She took fourth
place in P-Ltd Mono and 2nd place in
1/6th Scale Crackerbox. Tyler Garrard
showed up with a fleet of FE boats,
making it seem like he only runs FE! He
entered a total of 12 classes over the four
day event. I don’t think NAMBA has any
other member than can field gas, nitro,
and FE boats like Tyler.
After nine years of CD’ing the
Arizona FE Winter Warmups, Lenny
Blake, more commonly known as Rum
Racing, finally got an FE boat to race. It
literally took that long for Lenny to work
up enough courage to fight through the
dreaded “spark” when you plug the
battery to the ESC. Baby steps, Lenny.
I’m proud of you. He took second place
in P-Ltd Offshore and would have done
better in P-Ltd Mono if he would have
not gone behind the back of his mentor
by asking Mark Grim for some prop
tuning. He learned a $70.00 lesson that
his mentor had his P-Ltd setup running at

New Members
I recently received an updated membership list from Cathie Galbraith and there are
currently forty two paid members in District 11. I was surprised at seeing a number of
new names. Ten to be exact. Two of those were returning members from some time
ago. Aaron and Brian Levigne. In the past, we have had long time members that we
have never met, heard from, nor responded to my letters or e-mails. I am assuming
that they were members for the insurance or were involved in some other aspect of the
R/C boating hobby. Maybe Fast Electric or Combat. They are receiving the district
newsletter but I will also be reaching out to them to find out what their interests are
and how the district can help.
Finances
We still have a little income coming in from the 2012 NAMBA Nationals. Two
start tables purchased by Zach. I have sold eight tables at $20.00 each. I returned
eleven sub-buoys to Overton's and we are waiting for credit. There is also some
lumber to return from the Nats drivers stand. Old balance was $2489.72. Income has
been a $296.84 balance from Nats sponsorships, $10 cash from an unknown source,
the previously mentioned $160.00 from the sale of tables, $35.00 from two t-shirts and
two stickers, $50.00 in single event memberships (check sent to NAMBA), $90.00
from sale of buoys to the LRWR boat club, $103.86 from banquet, $100.00 from
Sanford race fees and lastly, $26.00 from Sanford 50/50 raffle. Expenses are $42.26
for postage and padded envelopes to ship Nats race packets and trophies. New balance
is $3318.76.
2012 FE NAMBA Nationals
By David Newland
FE NAMBA Chairman and Nationals Contest Director
Sponsored by Steven Vaccaro from
Offshoreelectrics.com and hosted by
SoCal Fast Electrics and the Scottsdale
Model Boaters, the 2012 NAMBA FE
National Event was held in California
at Legg Lake, June 19 through June
23, 2012. Legg Lake has been a staple
site to the model boating community
for 41 years, but up until this year has
lacked an FE National event.
FE National events are entering a new era. We have always run a four day event
and have great competition, but recently we are seeing an influx of gas/nitro racers
help and participate, as well as receiving strong district support in the organization of
our events. It started in Colorado in 2010 with District 20 Director Robert Holland’s
involvement, and continued this year with numerous District 19 big hitters in our
hobby offering a hand and grabbing a radio. It’s obvious to those FE racers that
consistently attend national events how much these seasoned veterans contribute to the
competition and the organization of these races. The future looks brighter than ever,
and we don’t even have rulebook wording
about FE national events. I know…how
can we do it without anything in the
rulebook?
There were a number of notable gas/
nitro racers in attendance. Jim Osborne
entered four classes and took second
place in P-Sport Hydro with a smaller “P-
Ltd” motor in his Insane 30. He also took
third place in P-Ltd Offshore and was a
member of the Scottsdale Model Boaters
Team which won the Team Points
competition. Ted McKay took first place
